You can transfer your license for the DT Trainer, along with all of your student data, to a new computer. To do this, please follow the steps below:
I. Unregister the installation from your old computer:
- If your DT Trainer installation is version 2.1 or newer:
- If your computer is connected to the internet:
- Launch the DT Trainer administration program, and select the “Registration” tab.
- Click the “Un-Register” button.
- Ensure that the correct authorization code is entered in the appropriate field toward the top of the screen, and click the “Process Unregister” button.
- If your computer is not connected to the internet, please call us at 803-403-1336, and we can unregister your installation manually.
- If your computer is connected to the internet:
- If your DT Trainer installation is older than version 2.1, no unregistration process exists – please just uninstall the DT Trainer from the old computer and skip to step 2 below.
II. Save your current student data:
- If your DT Trainer installation is version 2.1 or newer:
- Launch the DT Trainer administration program, and select the “Common Administration” tab.
- Click the “Maintenance Tools” button.
- Under the “Basic Backup / Restore” tab, click the “Set Location” button and choose where you would like to save the student data. This could be a flash drive, network share, etc.
- Using the drop-down menu toward the middle of the screen, select each student that you wish to back up, and click the “Backup” button.

If your DT Trainer installation is older than version 2.1:
- Using Windows Explorer or the “My Computer” shortcut on your desktop, navigate to your DT Trainer installation folder (this is “C:\Program Files\DT Trainer” by default).
- Open the “Students” subfolder.
- You should now see a folder for each of your student profiles. Copy the folder for each student whose data you would like to save to a flash drive, network share, etc.
III. Uninstall DT Trainer from your Old Computer
This can be done either through the Control Panel (“Add/Remove Programs” section), or by clicking the “Uninstall the DT Trainer” shortcut that is on your Start Menu (in the “DT Trainer” program group).
IV. Install the DT Trainer on your New Computer
You can do this by using your DT Trainer installation CD, or by downloading the installation from our Updates Page.
V. Register the new DT Trainer installation:
- If your DT Trainer installation is version 2.0.5.1 or newer:
- If your computer is connected to the internet:
- Launch the DT Trainer administration program, and select the “Registration” tab.
- Enter your contact information in the fields provided, and click the “Register” button.
- Enter the authorization code for the license that you would like to associate with this computer, and click the “Process Registration” button.
- If your computer is not connected to the internet, please call us at 803-403-1336, and we can register your new installation manually.
- If your computer is connected to the internet:
- If your DT Trainer installation is older than version 2.0.5.1, please call us at 803-403-1336, and we can register your new installation manually.
VI. Restore Saved Data
If you saved your student data from the old installation, restore the data by doing the following:
- If your DT Trainer installation is version 2.1 or newer:
- Launch the DT Trainer administration program, and select the “Common Administration” tab.
- Click the “Maintenance Tools” button.
- Under the “Basic Backup / Restore” tab, click the “Set Location” button and choose the location where you previously saved the student data.
- Now select each student that you would like to restore from the list at the bottom of the screen, and click the “Restore” button.
- If your DT Trainer installation is older than version 2.1:
- Using Windows Explorer or the “My Computer” shortcut on your desktop, navigate to your DT Trainer installation folder (this is “C:\Program Files\DT Trainer” by default).
- Open the “Students” subfolder.
- Copy each folder that you previously saved into this folder.
If your DT Trainer installations are older than version 2.1, and your computers are internet connected, it is recommended that you update to our current version in order to make this process easier. You can download the patch to update your installation from our website at Updates Page.
